Remembering the Smell of Burning Rubber

Greece was in trouble. The bills for years of easy money pouring into the country after joining the Eurozone were coming due. It was more than the country could pay. The money lenders were demanding payment. After months of protests and debate, the Greek Parliament was forced to approve an austerity bill with severe wage cutbacks. The people were pissed, but the austerity plan was required to stay in the European Union. 

The protests came to a head on Wednesday. The parliament had the first of two votes on the austerity package, inspiring the largest protest of a long year. The police estimated 80,000 people, while newspaper sources said 100,000.
